Interview with Mr. Antoine Hage expert in DIP (Driving Improvement Program)

Interview with Mr. Antoine Hage expert in DIP (Driving Improvement Program)

1) How long have you been a volunteer in YASA?
That's 10 years now that I am a very committed volunteer in YASA.

2) You are an expert in DIP ... What does this acronym stand for?
DIP is an abbreviation for "Driving Improvement Program." This program aims to improve the skills and knowledge in driving behavior and attitudes.
3) What categories of drivers participate in these conferences?
This program is designed for professional drivers such as bus drivers and trucks. In other words all those who their work involves driving.

4) Approximately how many courses you teach per month?
In general, an expert in defensive driving is responsible for four to five missions per month. Each mission or course can take between four, eight or even sixteen hours. There are several types of program and the longer the course is the better consistency it will be.
5) Why did you become an expert in DIP?
I work as an instructor in a driving school for already 17 years and I manage the distribution of the driving licenses. In fact, since my work is in this field, I’m trying to use the DIP to resolve the flows in the system. For this reason I contacted YASA, which helped me to pursue a certificate in order to increase my knowledge on defensive driving and achieve my goal of reforming and improving the Lebanese driving examination.
6) Has the program for the Lebanese driving license been completed?
The program is not finished yet. I personally changed the fundamental principles by adding new studies inspired by effective rules of physics and ideas extracted from the new Traffic Law. In addition to modern methods such as the shocking videos that helps educate participants. We obtained good results so far.
7) Why is your work important?
The purpose of this program is to achieve change in the mentality of the Lebanese drivers to implement the law with rigor and discipline. We must learn the risks of wrong driving, which is unhealthy and dangerous to avoid any accidents.

8) How many DIP did you held in your life?
Probably more than thirty sessions. I have worked with many public and private companies. Most importantly, the DIP which gave me the most satisfaction was given to the army forces and the police.
9) For private companies, is there an economic advantage to organize DIP?
Of course, the economic benefit for businesses is obvious, I would even say huge. In fact, less road accidents means less damage to repair, cheaper insurance to pay, and an important professionalism and knowhow from the drivers, and especially less risk in general. In addition, there is an advertising issue because a car accident in which branded the company above, can lead to the bad publicity.

10) Can you name some companies with whom you work?
There are a large number of private companies. For example: MTC Touch, Almaza, Nestlé Waters, Alpha, Holcim (cement mixers drivers), Johnson and Johnson, Danone ... But I have also worked with many schools to train their bus drivers.

11) What studies did you to get there?
I studied at the “Lebanese Tourism College." Then I took several courses in Lebanon with the NSC and YASA as well as to be specializing in road safety. I studied for my DIP certificate also at YASA. I subsequently became one of the leading experts in the field.
