Michael Schumacher Update & Latest News: F1 Racer May Not Return to Normal?

Michael Schumacher Update & Latest News: F1 Racer May Not Return to Normal?

Injured Formula One racer, Michael Schumacher, may not know how it feels to be normal again based from the latest opinion given by medical insiders.

Because of the total news blackout of Schumacher's family, the public has failed to get updates on the condition of the racer. An insider, however, told Express that the racer, who is currently recovering at his Swiss mansion on the shores of Lake Geneva, still cannot speak and walk and has "limited awareness" of his surroundings.

"Progress is painfully slow. There is no miracle on the horizon," the insider added.

The same report noted that Schumacher is being cared for 24/7 by a medical team headed by Prof. Jean-Francois Payen, who also conducted his brain operation to remove blood clots after his ski accident at the French Alps last Dec. 29, 2013.

Inquisitr added that after the accident, the racer was placed in an induced coma but he was able to recover from it months later. His wife Corinna and two children have reportedly stayed beside Schumacher and is continuously guiding him in his recovery.

Consultant neurological and spinal surgeon Peter Hamlyn, on the other hand, said in the Express report that the thing that tortures the family as well as the public is the slow and uncertain progress of the racer.

"If you look at severe head injury victims who go on to make a good recovery - and I'm not saying all do - it will always be a story of years. The first months are dominated by questions of survival. Gradually as the weeks and months go by those questions of survival turn into questions of the quality of survival," Hamlyn explained.

He also noted that the process will be a rollercoaster ride for his family which will take them to places which are "pretty unhappy."

Express added that during the 14 months after the accident, Schumacher's medical bills have ballooned to over £10million. It added that he is being treated in a special clinic built on the grounds of his Swiss home.

"Each day, Schumacher is massaged for hours in an effort to stimulate muscle mass and is assessed every hour for improvements," Express added.

His friends and family are continuously hoping that he will eventually be back to normal again after his rehabilitation.

According to Express, Schumacher's friend British car driver Lewis Hamilton said that the injured racer is always in his prayers. "Prayers of hope that you pull through this difficult time," he added.

Meanwhile, racer Jenson Button said he is always reminded of Schumacher's memories in Formula 1 driving.

"Michael was such a formidable racer... relentlessly competitive. Always there for him," he added in the Express report.
