YASA and LASIP advice to avoid the increase of injuries resulting from road collisions on New Year’s Eve
The holidays are an opportunity to meet with family in an atmosphere of joy and happiness and not to have a farewell and be sad! It is recognized that the holiday season reflects in bad traffic on most roads, especially, on the roads of the mountain in winter. YASA and LASIP (Lebanese Association for Sports Injuries Prevention) calls citizens, drivers and pedestrians not to turn the holiday cheer into traffic disasters since 2012 was a disastrous year. YASA and LASIP wishes that everyone, especially young people, think before assuming that everything that can be done in a normal day, is permitted on New Year's Eve. In this perspective, YASA has chosen the distinctive title for this new years campaign (Don't be without a head...) YASA and LASIP reminds all road users to be careful and drive calmly while wearing seatbelts and follow our safety tips that follow: 1. Do not drive under the influence of alcohol. Holidays are for some people always associated with alcohol especially on new year’s eve and this may lead to death of our young people on the roads. 2. The need to choose one person from each group to commit to not drinking alcohol before driving to return home safe. 3. Remind citizens that the traffic law allows internal security forces to punish any violation case exceeding the permitted amount of alcohol, emphasizing the importance of security forces in the implementation of traffic law on everyone without exception. 4. The need to use seat belts on all seats, without exception, especially in the front seat beside the driver. 5. Importance of seating children up to the age of eight in an age appropriate car seat. 6. Physical fatigue caused by frequent travel during holidays could lead to an increase in the number of collisions, for this reason we must be aware of the dangers of extreme fatigue resulting from New Year's Eve that could last long. 7. Involve parents and friends of young people aged between 16 to 27 years to attract their attention to the dangers they may be exposed while driving, especially on the occasion of the New Year's Eve. Parents should remind their children of their responsibilities 8. Appeal to various media to inform citizens of the dangers of driving on New Year's Eve to avoid injuries that could result from such a night in the absence of compliance with the traffic law and public safety guidelines. YASA and LASIP (Lebanese Association for Sports Injuries Prevention) also point out that the New Year's Eve 2013 could see a storm and heavy rains, it is best to comply with the directives of the police, civil defense and the Red Cross.
In addition, it should be regular practice to maintain the vehicle before winter, especially for those who intend to spend their evening in the mountains where the vision will be difficult and ice will be abundant in the early hours of the morning when the people return from their evening.
