At around 2:30 p.m., RCMP officers responded to reports of a rolled 2001 Toyota RAV 4 which had come to a stop on its roof in the southbound lanes of Highway 2 between Balzac and the Stoney Trail overpass.

The driver of the vehicle, a man in his sixties from Red Deer, was trapped in the wreckage. Emergency crews extricated the man from the crossover SUV and EMS transported the driver to hospital in stable condition.

The passenger in the vehicle, a Red Deer woman, suffered minor injuries in the rollover and received medical treatment at the scene.

Following the crash, the four southbound lanes of the highway were reduced to a single lane.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway. RCMP believe driver inattention was a factor in the rollover and charges are pending against the Red Deer man.

RCMP have reopened all lane of the highway.
