Officers responded to the scene of a crash at 5:20 p.m.

Witnesses say that a black Acura sedan was northbound on Highway 2 when it attempted to make a U-turn by pulling into a gravel approach designed for highway maintenance vehicles.

When the driver attempted to pull back into traffic, he crashed into a Dodge Ram truck that was towing a travel trailer.

The truck then left the road and slammed into the cable barrier in the median of the highway.

The lone occupant of the Acura, a 61-year-old male from Calgary, was transported to hospital by ground ambulance.

All five occupants of the truck, two adults and three children all from Coaldale, were not injured in the crash.

Police say that traffic was quite heavy on the highway at the time and road conditions were reported as favourable.

There is no information on charges that could be laid in the incident.
