A 64-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by an SUV while picketing in a Montreal suburb Thursday morning.

Approximately 30 picketers were protesting in Boucherville, Que., when a 47-year-old motorist tried to drive a Ford Explorer onto the company’s property and ran over the demonstrator.

The man was struck and pinned under the vehicle.

The incident was caught on camera by the Confederation Des Syndicats Nationaux, the union representing the picketers. The graphic video appears to show the moment of impact.

Firefighters managed to free the man, and he was transported to hospital with serious injuries, including some broken bones. He is expected to recover. Another protester suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.

The driver has been arrested, but charges have yet to be laid as police continue to investigate.

The picketers are employees of Kronos, a pigment and paint manufacturer that is in the midst of a two-month labour dispute.

The picketers were outside a Robert Transportation facility, a company that works with Kronos.
