A serious crash on Highway 63 in northern Alberta has sent six people to hospital in Edmonton for treatment.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

They say that a southbound semi truck lost control while it was braking and crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting two northbound cars.

Three people are in serious condition – a 19-year-old woman and two men, aged 19 and 48.

All three of those people were in the same car and officials have confirmed they are related to one another.

Police say that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

No names have been released.
