Road Safety Social Investment Master Class
Developed by Shell in conjunction with GRSP, the first ever Road Safety Social Investment Master Class was conducted in October for Shell team members from the middle-east and north africa (MENA) region. The course has been designed to teach Shell team members the fundamentals of road safety and to provide a broad understanding of the road safety problem, data and evidence of the problem, multi-sectorial response to the problem, insight into the legal and policy framework and risk factors that impact upon road safety and strategies that have been demonstrated to achieve measurable improvements.
The course comprises three modules (Road safety orientation; Road safety risk factors and crash causation; and Addressing road safety through community activities) and furnished participants with the tools and knowledge to be able to: • demonstrate a clear and coherent understanding of the basic principles underpinning road safety and crash factors; • interpret basic road safety data to identify priority issues in a community; • identify selected proven, low cost public health interventions that will improve road safety with a focus on the relevant Road Safety Sub-Themes in the Shell Social Investment Impact Framework; • develop initiatives that are linked to the national agenda for road safety within a country; • plan road safety initiatives that will contribute to a reduction in road death and serious injury and assist people within the community to become safer road users; • identify potential partners and develop partnerships that will maximise outcomes from road safety initiatives; • plan effective monitoring and evaluation to measure the success of community road safety initiatives and to identify opportunities for improvement.
Participant reviews have been very positive and further classes are being planned |
