WHO collects road safety legislation for the third Global status report on road safety
As part of the work to produce the third Global status report on road safety, WHO has initiated a process to collect road safety legislation from all countries of the world.
While a National Data Coordinator in each country will assist with data collection, WHO is requesting the support of partners from government, civil society and academia to obtain copies of the legislative documents.
These should include the most recent national laws or regulations that relate to key risk factors: speed, drink-driving, and the use of motorcycle helmets, seat-belts and child restraints. These may also include laws covering the use of mobile phones while driving.
This information may be found in a country’s: Road Traffic Act and accompanying regulations; Road Safety Act; or Motor Vehicles Act and accompanying regulations. There may also be national decrees or orders relating to the key risk factors mentioned above.
If no official translation of the legislative document exists in English, French or Spanish, WHO will accept documents in their original language and have them translated.
Ideally, the legislative documents should be provided in Adobe PDF or Word, but they may also be presented in any format as long as the source and the date of the documents are clear. WHO would also be keen to receive the URL of websites where the legislative documents may be found.
