RCMP say a 23-year-old man was taken to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance Saturday after the snowmobile he was riding hit a snow ridge along a service road near Bentley, Alberta.

Emergency services were called in by two family members who witnessed the incident.

The man is said to have suffered serious injuries to his spinal cord.

Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor and the two family members have been charged with refusing a breathalyzer.

No names are being released at this time.

Bentley is about an hour and a half south of Edmonton.
