Fatality at Whitehorn LRT station
A person has been killed after they were hit by the LRT on 36 St. near Whitehorn Station shortly before 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
Police say that the LRT was traveling north when a 36 year old man stepped out onto the tracks when he was struck.
Stuart Brideaux, with the Calgary EMS says the man was killed instantly when the LRT hit him. "After a cursory assessment, we left the scene in care of Calgary Police, Traffic, and City Transit officials."
The LRT was closed and experiencing delays for about two hours following the incident, with commuters being shuttled from Whitehorn to McKnight to bypass the police investigation.
Full service for the northeast LRT resumed at about 11:15 a.m.
Police are taking statements from witnesses, but it appears that it was all a tragic accident.
