One person is in hospital with serious injuries after a crash on the Queen Elizabeth II highway near Innisfail, Alta., early Saturday.
Queen Elizabeth Highway at Highway 590 Police were called to a single-vehicle collision in the northbound lane of the highway, near the Highway 590 overpass, just after midnight.
Police say a grey GMC pickup truck, driven by a 30-year-old man from Acadia Valley, Alta., was entering the QE II from the Highway 590 onramp when it failed to negotiate a curve and went off the road, where the driver lost control.
The car rolled several times across the northbound lanes, police said, finally coming to a rest on its wheels on a grass meridian.
One passenger — a 23-year-old man from Innisfail, Alta. — was ejected from the truck and sustained serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital in Calgary by air ambulance. Police say he was not wearing his seatbelt.
The driver and three other passengers, who were all wearing their seatbelts, sustained minor injuries.
The truck sustained "extensive damage" in the crash.
Police say the crash is still under investigation but alcohol is believed to be a factor. No charges have been laid.
