Calgary woman killed in scooter crash in Mexico

Calgary woman dies in Mexico crash

26-year-old Laura Penton lost her life in a scooter collision in Cozumel

Family and friends of Laura Dawn Penton are mourning the sudden loss of the 26-year-old woman following a tragic crash on the island of Cozumel.
 
Mexican officials say Penton was vacationing in the Playa del Carmen area with friends when the group made an excursion to Cozumel.  Penton was operating a rented scooter on the south coast of the island on Friday afternoon when she lost control of the vehicle and was thrown from the bike.  
 
According to reports from the Diario de Quintana Roo, a local newspaper, Penton collided with a wooden post on the side of the road and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Penton’s family is currently making arrangements to have the body returned to Calgary
