Emergency crews were called to the scene of a fatal crash involving a concrete truck and a pedestrian in the city's southeast on Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to the crash on 12 Street, just south of 9 Avenue S.E., at about 4:50 p.m. Tuesday and officers blocked off several streets in the Inglewood area to investigate.

"'On arrival EMS assessed one male patient, an adult male we are uncertain of his age at this time, for injuries he sustained in that collision. We subsequently transported him to the Foothills Hospital in critical, life threatening condition, with the assistance of two members of the Calgary Fire Department, " said Stuart Bridaux, Public Education Officer with Calgary EMS.

EMS says that the male pedestrian succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The Traffic Unit is investigating and there is no word yet on charges.

EMS says the driver of the truck was not injured.
