The mother of a 2-year-old boy killed by an allegedly drunk driver is calling for tougher sentences on impaired drivers.
Sage Morin took her case to Premier Alison Redford Saturday and the duo has agreed to meet again to discuss how Redford can help the campaign.
A spokesperson for the premier told CTV News that the two women meet as mothers.
“Sage showed her some pictures of her son and talked about his personality, his vibrancy,” Neala Barton explained.
Morrin told media that her campaign, Justice for Geo, was a way to turn her family’s tragedy into something positive.
“Something that my son can look down and be proud of me for,” she said.
“Families who have been torn apart by another person’s selfish choice should at least be able to rest assured that the person responsible killing their loved one will be held accountable to the furthest extent of the law.
“We are all ready for the legal system to start treating these lost lives with the dignity they deserve.”
She added that she felt Redford would be a good collaborator for the issue.
“I think she is the person that is going to be able to stand with me and take this fight to the front lines where it belongs.”
