A 21-year-old man from Victoria was killed after his vehicle crossed the centre-line and crashed into a truck pulling a trailer on Highway 16 on Monday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the fatal crash on the highway east of Jasper at about 6:30 a.m.

Police say the young man was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on Highway 16 when he crossed into the path of an eastbound 2012 Ford F350 pulling a trailer.

The 35-year-old driver of the truck and trailer is from Edmonton and suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Police shut down part of the highway for several hours to investigate and the roadway was reopened later in the afternoon.

The name of the deceased is not being released.
