One person dead following crash near Cochrane

An afternoon collision between two vehicles on Highway 22 near James Walker Trail in the town of Cochrane, has left one person dead.
According to RCMP, the crash occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. when a northbound Ford Taurus, being driven by a 70-year-old woman, crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming van.
The driver of the Taurus was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van, a man in his late 40's, was transported by EMS to Foothills Hospital in stable condition.
Following the initial crash, the van was sent spinning at which time it struck a school bus. Sgt. Patricia Neely, RCMP Media Relations Officer, confirms the bus driver was the lone occupant of the bus at the time of the crash. The bus suffered minor damage but the driver was not injured.
Speed and alcohol are not believed to have factored in the crash. The identity of the deceased has not been released.
