Ten people were injured in a two-car collision at Lakeshore Boulevard and Bay Street Wednesday afternoon.
Police said six of the injured include pedestrians.
Investigators believe both the vehicles, a silver car and a new black SUV which was being taken out for a drive from a nearby dealership, were heading west on the Lakeshore shortly before 1:30 p.m.
The silver car carrying three people attempted to make a last-minute left hand turn towards Bay Street before it collided with the SUV. A hydro pole was hit after at least one vehicle jumped the curb. Toronto Hydro has been notified.
"I know that there was a car that went into that pole here," a witness told CTV Toronto. "There were some pedestrians that were walking along as well."
Police said three pedestrians took a direct hit. Among them was a critically injured man, a woman who suffered serious injuries, and a nine-year-old girl.
Of the 10 injured people, seven were taken to hospital: three pedestrians, the trio from the silver car and the driver of the black SUV.
The occupants of the silver car were attending a convention at the Air Canada Centre. A friend of the driver said it was his second day driving in Toronto.
"I’m really concerned because they’re great guys," the man said. "They’re my friends."
Images from the scene of the crash shows the collision happened near a construction site.
The Lakeshore is closed to traffic between Yonge and York streets as police investigate the crash. Access to the Union Station bus terminal is blocked as a result of the road closure. All bus services, including GO Transit, have been suspended at the station.
The intersection is expected to remain closed throughout the afternoon.
Police have not said whether any charges will be laid in connection to the crash
