Brothers killed in crash remembered by family, friends at scene of highway collision

Brothers killed in crash remembered by family, friends at scene of highway collision

Family and friends of two teenaged boys killed in a serious collision Monday afternoon are remembering the young brothers.

Early Tuesday morning, a few friends of Logan, 14, and Dalin Torresan, 17, held vigil at the scene of the crash on Highway 16 near Range Road 213, where a memorial with flowers, candles, cards and teddy bears has grown.

One of the friends told CTV News he had stayed at the site throughout the night – and said Logan and Dalin were passionate about arm wrestling, and had been invited to the ‘World Arm Wrestling Championship’ in Brazil with their father last year.

The family was looking forward to seeing where that hobby would take them.

“They’ve always smiled, they were always in a good mood, they put the worst behind them, and they always looked to the future,” Friend Randall Bell said on the scene Tuesday morning.

The pair of teenagers died in the collision over the lunch hour, police said the small car the teens were in stopped at a stop sign on Range Road 213 at Highway 16, before pulling into the eastbound lanes of the highway.

The car was hit by a pickup truck that was also heading eastbound.

Both teens were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the 54-year-old male driver of the truck was taken to an Edmonton hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators said shortly after the crash that the teens may have been heading into the city from the rural area they lived in.

“Standing around here I just realized that that could have happened to anybody, since I just live up the road too,” Bell said.

RCMP said Monday that alcohol and speed were not believed to be factors in the crash, and no charges will be laid in the crash.

Later Tuesday, more people gathered at the scene, sharing memories of the two boys.

“At least the boys are together, and the rest of the family is just going to have to pick up the pieces of their lives, they’ve lost half their family,” Family friend Lorna Guindon said.

In addition to the highway memorial, messages of condolence have been pouring in online – a memorial page on Facebook was created, where a number of people had posted messages to the family of the boys.

The page invites people to go to the crash site over the next couple of days to lay cards, flowers and candles at the memorial.
