Charges pending in multi-vehicle crash on Macleod Trail

An early morning crash at the intersection of Macleod Tr. and 71 Ave. S.E. sent one person to hospital in critical, life threatening condition and closed the intersection for several hours.
“Just after 2:00 a.m., there was a five vehicle motor vehicle collision in the southbound lanes of the 7100 block of Macleod Trail,” said Duty Staff Sgt. Paul Wozney. “We have, what we believe to be, an impaired driver that struck a vehicle.”
According to police, several vehicles were stopped at a red light on when the allegedly impaired driver of 2006 Ford Escape collided with one of the vehicles, prompting a chain reaction of collisions.
EMS crews arrived at the scene and treated several people for ‘bumps and bruises’. A 58-year-old male was transported to Foothills Hospital by ambulance in critical, life-threatening condition.. His condition has been upgraded to stable, non-life threatening with serious injuries.
The intersection was closed to traffic until 6:45 a.m.
Police continue to investigate the crash.
