Family struggles with loss after alleged impaired driving collision claims Edmonton man

Days after an Edmonton man was killed in an alleged drunk driving collision, his family is struggling to come to grips with the loss.
 
“I know for myself, my life is entirely ruined,” Tracy Bagdan said through tears.
 
Her husband, 40-year-old Brennan, was killed in a collision on Friday after an SUV heading the wrong way on a one-way street hit the car they were travelling in around 109 Street and 83 Avenue.
 

Tracy was the passenger in the vehicle but said she does not remember much from the night.
 
“I remember glass. I remember asking where Brennan was,” she recalled.
 
“It’s all a total blur.”
 
Tracy was treated for a broken collarbone, broken rib and still has some bruising from the collision.
 
The couple had been celebrating two years of being together, as their first date was on November 1, 2011.
 
They had been married for about a year and a half.
 
“They just complemented each other so beautifully. You could just see their love always when they were together,” Brennan’s mother, Donna, said.
 
“They didn’t have too long to share all that but it was a very deep love that they had.”
 
Tyhler Kennedy Keith, 21, is facing several charges in the incident including impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm and dangerous driving causing death.
 
Donna said she was very angry when she heard the news.
 
“He killed my son. My son is dead now. It was just so fast. You don’t expect it to happen somehow in such a brutal way.
 
“It was just instant. He was gone.
 
“It just changes everything.”
 
She added that it was hard to understand why someone would drink and drive when there was such a campaign against it.
 
“I think older people tend get the message. I think some of the young people still feel that it can’t happen to them. They haven’t had enough world experience.”
 
Now the family knows, as hard as it will be, they must go on without Brennan.
 
“I don't know how to even envision the rest of my life now,” Tracy said through tears.
 
“I think it's going to be very difficult after knowing, having it all really, and then having it all taken away.”
 
“He was in the prime of his life," Donna said.
 
"So much possibility and now he is not there."
 
The family will be having a service for Brennan at the Connelly-McKinley funeral home on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
