Fast And Furious star Paul Walker, 40 after his tragic death

Fast And Furious star Paul Walker, 40, leaves a long-lasting legacy in film after his tragic death

Paul Walker made his name in the Fast And Furious franchise, but in a tragic twist of fate, he lost his life in a car accident on Saturday afternoon.

It was in Valencia, Los Angeles where the 40-year old was found dead at the scene, just 28 miles from where the actor was born.

Paul made his name in the acting world, from teen heartthrob to action star, however, he will be remembered not just for his cinematic contributions, but as a philanthropist, cherished friend and father too.

As a boy, the late actor called Glendale his home where he was brought up by his Mormon mother and father along with his five younger siblings.

Inheriting his mother's good looks, Paul was taken to magazine and TV commercial auditions and hired as a child model, which helped to finiancially support his large family.

Through the eighties to the early nineties, Paul landed a number of TV roles, starring in shows Highway To Heaven, Charles in Charge and Who’s the Boss, but it was later that decade when the silver screen really started to beckon.

In 1998, Walker starred opposite Reese Witherspoon and Tobey Maguire in Pleasantville, then landed roles high school football drama Varsity Blues with James Van Der Beek and the teen comedy She's All That with Freddie Prinze Jnr. and Rachel Leigh Cook.

From that point forward, his star was rising in Hollywood, landing more featured roles in films like 2000's The Skulls with Joshua Jackson, which helped secure the part of Brian O'Conner in The Fast And Furious, what with the director and producer, Rob Cohen and and Neal H Moritz, bringing him on to the street-racing movie.

The B-movie was never expected to do as well as it did, with Walker playing the undercover police officer sent to infiltrate the underground car gang run by Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto.

But now the film - based on a Vibe magazine article about the street-racing scene - has enjoyed five sequels, with the latest installment, featuring every featured cast member in the franchise, earning a worldwide total of $788,679,850 at the box office.

In between Fast And Furious films - Paul starred in all except the third - the actor proved himself as a well-rounded actor, working with Clint Eastwood on wartime epic Flags Of Our Fathers and the underrated Running Scared.

This year, Paul was enjoying work on the production of Fast And Furious 7, but now the future of the series is in question, as director James Wan and his team will now have to write his death into the script, and in doing so, lose one of the franchise's most important characters.

But his life didn't just revolve around fast cars and endless film shoots, for Paul was an avid philanthropist with a keen interest in the environment and the sea, which saw him help make documentaries for National Geographic and Shark Week.

He founded the Reach Out Worldwide charity in 2010 to aid people affected by natural disasters - a subject brought up in this movie Hours, which follows a man and his newborn baby as Hurricane Katrina hits, and will be released in cinemas this Christmas.

It was following the latest fundraiser put on by Paul and his Reach Out Worldwide initative, that Paul jumped into the passenger seat of a Porsche GT never to be seen alive again, but the last image of him witnessed by the guests of the event was a smiling, happy man.

The high-powered super-car was being driven by Roger Rodas the former race car driver who had helped set up the charity programme.

Rodas was also the CEO of Always Evolving, the car customization shop where Saturday's charity event had been taking place.

'He was very happy,' Walker's friend Bill Townsend told AP Radio, 'He was smiling at everybody, just tickled that all these people came out to support this charity. He was doing what he loved. He was surrounded by friends, surrounded by cars.'

Paul doesn't just leave behind his friends and work colleagues, who have been flooding Twitter with their condolences and emotional messages, but his only daughter Meadow Rain Walker.

The actor had Meadow with his then girlfriend Rebecca McBrain at the age of 25, and only recently she moved from her mother's home in Hawaii back to California to be closer to her father.
