Brandon Thomas, 18, was driving on Highway 22 south of Cochrane on December 6, 2012 when his vehicle was struck head-on by a pickup truck.
Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gibson pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm in court on Monday. The additional charges were withdrawn.
Kim Thomas, Brandon’s mother, saw the accused for the first time in court on Monday.
She says if Gibson gets the two years in prison that the defence is asking for, it will mean he will spend just a few months behind bars.
“If it is two years, we know that he will spend a sixth of that in jail, that is four months for taking 60 years of Brandon’s life. That is a slap in our face and that is of no value to Brandon’s life, to his laughter, his love, his passion and his joy for living. Brandon means more than that,” said Kim Thomas.
Gibson is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Provincial Court on April 16th for sentencing.
