Calgary police are investigating an early morning collision on Macleod Trail which injured a 22-year-old pedestrian.

According to police, shortly after 3:00 a.m., a southbound Mitsubishi Lancer approached 71 Ave. S. when it struck a male pedestrian in the crosswalk. Officers believe the driver of the Mitsubishi, a 20-year-old man, attempted to avoid the pedestrian by braking and changing lanes but his efforts proved unsuccessful.

EMS transported the victim to hospital with potentially life threatening injuries.

Evidence from the crash scene including reports from witnesses indicates the driver was proceeding on a green light. Police suspect the pedestrian had been drinking and his impairment contributed to the collision.
