A verdict has been reached in the trial of a man charged in connection to the fatal hit and run death of a young girl in 2012.

Eleasha Wesley, 10, was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in a crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near the exit to Valley Ridge on May 3, 2012.

The sedan she was in lost control, flipped and rolled into a ditch after it was hit from behind by a minivan.

Eleasha was thrown from the vehicle and died from her injuries.

A witness to the crash was able to follow the minivan and pass the information on to police.

Fergus Hunter was arrested on May 22, 2012 and charged with hit and run and dangerous driving causing death in connection to the fatal crash.

On Thursday, Justice Pat Sullivan found Hunter guilty of the charges in a Calgary courtroom.

Hunter will be sentenced in May
